Herkimer Diamond Jewelry
A public service project always open to input from the community interested in Herkimer diamonds.
On this page will be information about jewelry made from Herkimer diamonds. Brilliant cut stones and other types of jewelry have been made from Herkimer diamonds. Herkimer Diamonds make interesting and unique jewelry, whether in their naturally faceted habit, or machine faceted. The stone has a hardness of 7-7.5 (out of 10) making it resistant to scratches. Reportedly some Herkimer diamonds (from hydrocarbon pockets) have an unusually high index of refraction for quartz. This results in an extra "sparkle" when it is cut. This extra "sparkle" can also be seen on the natural stones from these types of special pockets as a unique face brilliance. In the future we hope to have articles on jewelry making using Herkimer diamonds, and more photos. We look forward to public contributions to improve this page.
Donations of cut stones and photos of jewelry are needed. Please help!

Machine Faceted Herkimer Jewelry is created from clear pieces of Herkimer Diamonds that have been cut and polished on a faceting machine. They are faceted into the common shapes seen in traditional diamond jewelry - round, marquise, emerald, oval, etc. All machine faceted stones should be water clear. It is rare to find large perfectly flawless material from which to cut and facet a water clear stones for jewelry. Natural Herkimer Jewelry is created from Herkimer Diamonds in their natural form. These crystals have not been touched by any type of lapidary machinery, including polishing; they are an impressive feat of nature. By wrapping the stones in wire, a striking piece can be created with minimal time and money. Bell cap mounts can also be used to set the crystals. A drop of Super Glue or jeweler's epoxy will attach the bell cap to the stone. The Herkimer crystals can be hung as pendants, charms or earrings. A dangling Herkimer Diamond dazzles. The free swinging movement captures the essence of the crystal, whether you are drawn to its brilliance, clarity, rainbows or shape.
